It is 7 years since Princess Luna was saved and the Elements of Harmony restored by Princess Twilight and her friends. The world is changing. The peaceful isolation of the village and farm under a distant monarch is giving way to a new world, with radical ideas, terrifying weapons, centralised nation states and industrialised cities.Already Equestria has suffered invasions, coup attempts, a rogue demigod, and even near annihilation at the hands of stolen time travel magic. A long awaited commission has released a scathing report condemning the Canterlot administration for its gross unpreparedness for military, magical and internal threats.Everywhere Equestria finds new challenges. To the west, Queen Chrysalis has abandoned her attempts at infiltration and instead mobilised the Changeling Hives for industry and war, planning her revenge on Equestria. To the north, the Crystal Empire, returned after centuries in limbo, considers its future in this strange world even as the threat of Sombra's return remains ever present. Communists spread radical ideas in Stalliongrad to the east, and the griffons of the north are thrown into chaos by the assassination of their governor.Across the sea, things are even worse. The Griffonian Empire, after centuries of stability, has collapsed, and millions lie dead as lords, kings and revolutionaries rush to fight over the spoils. The vulnerable ponies of the colony of New Mareland find Equestria more distant than ever. In the cursed north, the Necromancers of the Dread League stir to battle the Holy Knights of the Arcturian Order. And in the far east the ponies of the disparate nations of the River Coalition face this dangerous world with no alicorns, no harmony, no advanced technology, wielding only the grim determination of those who fight to protect their home and lives. In this modern world of danger and impending war, the Magic of Friendship can seem very distant indeed..Retrieved from 'https://hoi4.paradoxwikis.com/index.php?title=Equestria_At_War&oldid=25950'Posted by1 year agoEquestria At War Fanfic
ArchivedHello folks, I’m Cyrus and welcome to the very first Equestria at War dev diary. In this diary we will be giving a general overview of the various Griffon nations on the new continent and introducing a new path for Equestria. Before we begin, seeing as this is our first proper dev diary, we would like to talk a bit about the mod itself. Equestria at War is a total conversion mod for Hearts of Iron 4, taking the player from the battlefields of our world to a more darker and mature version of the My Little Pony universe. Featuring a scratch-made, hand-drawn map, countless new nations, events, focus trees, technologies, improved AI, as well as unique GFX and portraits, Equestria at War aims to provide a fun and cohesive experience in our version of the MLP universe.Contrary to what some may think, EaW is not a “meme” mod, but a serious and extensive project, with talented developers and contributors. EaW is also a part of the prestigious Hearts of Iron IV Modding Coop - alongside household names such as Kaiserreich and The New Order, just to name a few. We are currently looking for more scripters for developing events, focuses and features, and for new artists to assist with icons and portraits. If you are interested in serious, consistent work on the project, please contact a dev on our Discord server if you are willing and capable of helping, now onto the dev diary proper. You can find our Discord here, Steam Workshop, ModDB and for Russian-speakers, VK page. The mod in its current version (0.6) is fully playable, and the Equestrian continent is fleshed out sufficiently. Please do note that everything below is work in progress, and not necessarily representative of final quality.First of all, a brief history of the Griffons and everyone else who inhabits the continent, and how their lives got turned right upside down:The Empire itself has officially existed for three hundred years. However, long before that, many kings and lords through the Griffons’ history would claim hegemony over their fellows. The Empire itself was formally united in the year 705 ALB, when Grover of Griffinstone ascended to the throne of Griffinstone as Grover I, with the help of the Idol of Boreas and after fighting several wars against the Kings of Wingbardy and Aquileia. The defeat of both Aquileia and Wingbardy allowed him to force the various petty kings of Griffonia to recognize him as the first Emperor, or rather Imperator, of all of Griffonia. His dynasty would go on to rule the Empire for the next three hundred years, and would eventually lose the Idol of Boreas, the disappearance of which is often cited as the beginning of the Empire’s troubles.Around the year 964, the sickly ten year old Grover V ascended to the throne of the Empire after his father Grover IV died due to a stroke. What was supposed to be a short regency until the Emperor became of age turned into a cascade of debauchery, decadence and stupidity on part of the nobility, as to due to young emperor’s frail nature the regency lasted well into 978. During that time, the nobility slowly chipped away at Imperial power, while consolidating their own. As the Imperial bureaucracy decayed, and the aristocracy strengthened, more and more depraved plans were being concocted in the shadows to get rid of the Empire once and for all.It all came crashing down one winter evening in 978, as Imperial garrisons all around the Capital found themselves facing tens ,if not hundreds of thousands of angry commoners, all marching towards the Imperial Palace. While the Emperor managed to escape to the countryside unharmed, many members of the Regency Council were lynched - those unlucky few who didn’t manage to flee to their own lands. This event marked the beginning of the Griffonian Republic (which wouldn’t last very long). Many of the more powerful nobles amongst the Empire’s ranks saw the rise of the Republic as a chance to finally break free of the Empire’s grasp. The first to leave was ancient Kingdom of Wingbardy, under the leadership of King Garibald Talonuel III, with their southern allies and client states following shortly afterwards. The Wingbardian Secession was quickly followed by King Gerad Discret of Aquileia proclaiming the ancient Kingdom independent once more. Unfortunately, the king would lose his head in 980 and an Aquileian Republic would be proclaimed. However, the Republic itself would fall only five years later and the Discret family would be restored to the Aquileian throne. To make things worse for the new republican government, a counter-revolution was launched in 979, resulting in the exile of the republican supporters to the far north of the Empire, and the restoration of Grover V to the throne. Despite the Emperor once again on the Imperial Throne, the damage had already been done, as much of the country was in utter chaos. Out of the many lords, princes and kings of Griffonia only those in the Imperial Heartlands remained loyal to the young Emperor - and even that could be considered a stretch, seeing as they maintained almost complete autonomy from the capital. In the meantime the lands of former Empire descended into an orgy of violence, bloodshed and destruction for nearly thirty years, leading to millions upon millions dead, uncountable amounts of orphans, and to a complete economic and societal collapse. These issues plague the entire continent to this day.Make no mistake - the Old Empire the world once knew is now long dead. Nowadays, upon a throne of skulls sits the shadow of a once great nation - but the idea of a united Griffonia still resonates deep within the hearts of every Griffon. Be wary, for there are many who will fight tooth and nail to make sure that the dream of a united Griffonia comes to pass once more, but there are many more who shall ensure this dream remains just that - a dream..Now back to Equestria: Hello, I am Yard1 (some of you may recall me if you have modded GTA V). I had joined the team two months ago, and have been helping out with the mod since then. Unlike the rest of the diary, I’d like to take you back to Equestria. As you already know, Princess Luna can return to the form of her evil alter-ego, Nightmare Moon. However, Luna isn’t the only alicorn that can embrace her darker side. With Equestria in an increasingly hostile world, Princess Celestia may start doubting the way she has led ponies since times immemorial. As the war progresses, she may find herself resorting to more and more drastic measures - all to protect her little ponies. That, in turn, has a side effect of making her more cynical, while thoughts she would have never imagined start appearing in her head…I will not spoil the path to become Daybreaker and declare Solar Empire, but I will instead present the paths the new Solar Empire can take.First order of business for the newly crowned Empress is to choose which path as a ruler she will take. Will she become a protector, uniting her subjects against threats both foreign and domestic, or will she view herself as a Mother to her ponies - and as children need, give them stern but fair guidance? Or maybe she will realize her power as the One who Raises the Sun, and demand worship from her subjects? Each path will have different bonuses and maluses. After the situation has stabilized somewhat, the Empire will need to reorganize its military. With many officers still unsure about the new persona of their ruler, some changes in the general staff may be necessary. The young officers propose four different, comprehensive plans for the army to follow - the Empire may focus on utilizing its raw industrial power; the tried and tested, carefully planned strategies; the masses of ponies ready to fight or the magical potential of their soldiers. The Imperial Air Force and Navy too stand before different choices. The Air Force can implement a flexible, tactical bomber based doctrine, or let a previously shunned officer, Blaze Firehooves, go forward with her plan of destroying enemy’s industrial base and infrastructure on an unprecedented scale. The Navy can pursue a path of a battleship or carrier supremacy - with both able to secure the dominance of the seas in the name of the Solar Empire. There is, of course, the issue of reunification and subjects. While some may break contact with Canterlot after Daybreaker’s ascension, the Empress will have several options to bring the troublemakers back to the fold. And lastly, the Empire, with all its might and glory, will bring Harmony and Order to everywhere the Sun shines - and all will see the Light.Hope you enjoyed our dev diary! We hope to show more progress soon. Until next time, Equestria at War team.20 commentsEquestria Universe My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Type Founded 2000 years before the return of Princess Luna, founded through the signing of the Declaration of Hearts Warming Location Continent of Equestria Leader Head of State - Princess Celestia

Notable characters Mane Six Population 10 Million+ (Exact Unknown) Main setting Ponyville Federal capital Canterlot Largest city Manehatten Equestria[1] (/ɛkuɛstriə/) is a fictional sovereign state used as the primary setting for the animated television seriesMy Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.[2][3][4][5] Equestria hosts several “millions” of intelligent and sapient creatures; the majority being 'Equidae'. Equestria resides on the Equestrian continent on a terrestrial planet, similar to Earth.[1]Equestria serves as the backdrop for the adventures of Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends, in their quest to spread the magic of friendship throughout the Empire of Equestria. Leading Equestria are four powerful regnantcoregency princesses: the Princess of the Day, the Princess of Night,[6] the Princess of Love and Family, and the Princess of Magic and Friendship.[7]Equestria's foundation is described as the result of the cooperation of unicorns, pegasi, and earth ponies, who came together in harmony to fight the Wendigos and stop an eternal blizzard; Hearts Warming Day is an annual holiday that celebrates its founding.[8] The 'Bit' is the official currency of Equestria and its territories.[7] Instead of English, it is mentioned that they call their language 'Ponish'.[9] However, because the Latin-English text is seen several times throughout the show,[10][11][12] it is understood that this is simply English under a different name. The name 'Equestria' is derived from the word 'equestrianism',[citation needed] from the Latin equester, 'belonging to a horseman', which denotes a relation to horseback riding.[13] Consequently, it also has an origin in equus and trias, the Latin words for 'horse' and 'three', respectively. In this sense, 'Equestria' can be interpreted as 'Land of the Three Horse Tribes,' a reference to the founding legend of Equestria.[citation needed]- 1Fictional history

Fictional history[edit]
Fictional chronology of events as depicted and described in the Friendship is Magic franchise. Relatively little is known of events that occurred before the adventures of Twilight Sparkle and her friends. IDW Publishing's official My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic publications provides most detailed events throughout Equestria's history, which have a semi-consistent internal continuity within themselves that, at the discretion of Hasbro, may or not be canonical within the context of the animated television series. As the television series progressed, some elements of the comics were canonized.Pre-Equestrian history[edit]
The Father of Monsters[edit]
- The First Emperor of Ancient Equestria - Grogar is first mentioned in the season 9 episode, 'The Beginning of the End', and is the oldest known living villain in Friendship is Magic thus far. Before The Three Tribes united as one, Grogar was once the supreme ruler of the land that would become Equestria. He created terrible monsters to terrorize the populace and ruled his land with an iron hoof—he himself described his reign was a 'fear-soaked epoch of darkness'—until he was confronted by a pony named Gusty the Great. Gusty took his magic bell and weakened him, and thusly, he was banished.[14]
Old Equestria history[edit]
Age of Eternal Winter[edit]
The Age of Eternal Winter was a time of darkness and frozen ice caused by the Wendigos, who fed off of the hatred between the three pony tribes.[8]- The Greatest Hero Who Ever Lived - Twilight stated that Star Swirl the Bearded was 'the leading expert at everything: Transfiguration, Dimensional-calibration, Teleportation, etc..' In his attempts to create 'time spells', he instead created an 'age reversal spell' and successfully uses it on himself.[15][16] Over time, he created dozens of mirrors linking to various worlds, and traveled throughout the multiverse, accumulating vast sums of knowledge. Before his self imposed-banishment, Star Swirl participated in many important events in Equestria's early history, and is stated to have lived, at minimum, one thousand years.
- The Founding of Equestria - The season 2 episode 'Hearth's Warming Eve' describes the founding of Equestria as a result of when the three races of ponies (the pegasi, unicorns and earth ponies) end up joining together, and beat back the Wendigos and prevent an eternal blizzard.[8]
Age of Legendary Heroes[edit]
- The First Summer Sun Celebration - Before the arrival of Celestia and Luna, Equestria was suffering terrible hardships. Raising the Sun and the Moon every morning and evening required five great unicorn sorcerers—plus Starswirl—to perform the exceedingly difficult labor. The strain placed upon the sorcerer's consumed so much magic they lost their powers forever; Equestria was in danger of losing all its magic users. [17] When the leaders of Equestria discovered two alicorn sisters with the talent to effortlessly move the celestial bodies without draining their magic, they moved to coronate the sisters as rulers of Equestria and entrusted Starswirl with the responsibility of raising and mentoring the alicorn sisters.
- The Pillars of Old Equestria - Six legendary ponies responsible for creating the Elements of Harmony. By planting the Tree of Harmony, they strived to ensure future generations have the knowledge and tools needed to defend Equestria in her darkest hours. When an evil, alicorn-like monster called the 'Pony of Shadows' arose from the abyss, none of them were able to vanquish the threat. Finally, after years of conflict, Star Swirl determined that the only way to save Equestria was to send the Pony of Shadows to Limbo, a space between worlds and universes; however, to complete this task, it was needed for the Pillars to send themselves to Limbo as well. By sacrificing themselves, the Pillars locked themselves along with the villain, saving the entirety of the Equestria.[18]
Age of Two Princesses[edit]
- The Sister Princesses - Now of age, Celestia and Luna lead Equestria without the wise counsel of their mentor and father-figure, Starswirl, who had mysteriously vanished. While the Sister Princesses were not the first rulers of Equestria, they have lived for at just short of two millenniums and have ruled Equestria for most of their lifespan. Hearth's Warming Eve' portrayed them as one of the first rulers of Equestria.[8][15] Their reign is characterized as benevolent, prosperous, and peaceful.[15]
- Reign of Discord[19][20] - Discord, a 'draconequus' and the self-proclaimed 'spirit of chaos and disharmony', attempted to invade Equestria and spread disharmony and chaos. It is at this point in which Celestia and Luna discovered the Elements of Harmony and used them to petrify Discord for over a millennia.[19][20]
Age of National Division[edit]
- The Fall of the Crystal Empire[21][22] - During the time of King Sombra's rule of the Crystal Empire, a great conflict waged between Equestria and the Crystal Empire. The entirety of the Empire vanished upon Sombra's downfall against Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.[21]
- The Great Celestia–Luna Rift[23] - 1,000 years before Friendship is Magic began, Princess Luna began to believe the ponies' strong preference for daytime over nighttime is evidence that they hate her. Thus, she rejected her sister and Equestria, transformed into Nightmare Moon, and attempted to create eternal night. Celestia attempted to reason with her, but was forced to use the Elements of Harmony, to banish her own sister to the moon.[24]
Celestian Equestria history[edit]
The 'Golden Age of Princess Celestia', as defined in the comics, is the defining point in Equestrian history as marked by Celestia's ruleship; from Princess Luna's banishment all the way until her redemption. It is proceeded by Old Equestria and succeeded by Modern Equestria. It is currently the longest defined period of history; during this era, Equestria transformed itself from an underdevelopedDark Agefeudal kingdom into a superpower with an advanced economy.Princess Celestia dedicated the next thousand years to bringing order and prosperity to Equestria. During her reign as the sole monarch, Princess Celestia was regarded as an almost deity-like mythical figure by her subjects, depicted in various myths and legends throughout Equestrian history.[citation needed] Many mythological books were written on Celestia and her history, dating as far back as Starswirl the Bearded. Historians regarded Celestia as a kind and just ruler and most of her citizens love and admire her. However, a great deal of her subjects also feared in disappointing her, acting overly formal and timid in her presence.[citation needed]Modern Equestria history[edit]
In modern times, Celestia continues to govern Equestria, adopts Cadence as her niece, and mentors promising young ponies. Due to the efforts of Twilight Sparkle and her friends, Equestria has been enjoying its longest period of prosperity and harmony in recorded history.[25] Centuries of tension between the griffins, ponies, dragons, and changelings peacefully concluded, with all factions becoming unlikely allies. This is the era most detailed by the main television series, and is therefore fully canon, as according to the show writers.[26][27]Prelude to Friendship[edit]
- The Crystal Heart Spell - As shown in Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell, Cadence became an alicorn after reversing a love-stealing spell cast by a pony called Prismia who wore a magic-enhancing necklace that amplified her evil and jealousy. After defeating her, Cadence was transported to a strange place where she met Celestia. As with Twilight's ascension, Cadence was surrounded by magical energy and transformed into an Alicorn. Celestia adopted her as her royal niece.
- The First Sonic Rainboom - A little over a decade before Luna's Redemption, Rainbow Dash broke the speed of sound and magic during a race, creating a phenomenon known as a sonic rainboom. This event, the first of its kind, awarded Rainbow Dash her cutie mark, simultaneously with her future friends, the 'Mane Six'. Celestia, upon seeing the symbol for the Element of Magic as Twilight's cutie mark, believed her destiny is intertwined with Equestria and her future friends, even before they knew each other.
- Yakyakistan Isolationism - Eight years before Luna's Redemption, Prince Rutherford of Yakyakistan closed off its borders to Equestria for the next 'hundreds of moons'.
- The Fall of Sunset Shimmer - Two years before Luna's Redemption, Sunset Shimmer's arrogance got the best of her, causing Celestia to grow concerned over her student's future. Compared to Twilight, who was sincere and humble, Sunset grew increasingly ambitious and selfish. As with Twilight, Celestia ordered Sunset to make friends; however, with Sunset's repeated failures at making friends, Celestia tried to teach her patience and humility with the use of Star Swirl's magic mirror. However, her plan backfired when Sunset witnessed a possible future of herself as an alicorn. At first, the projection was of a beautiful and powerful pony, but soon became into a dark, wrathful pony who sought only to control others. Sunset was mortified by the reflection within herself, but grew ever curious. Her obsession with the mirror grew as Sunset disobeyed Celestia's orders by repeatedly breaking into the Forbidden Dark Magic wing of the Royal Library of Equestria. After weeks, Sunset and Celestia blew up at each other, leading to Celestia to officially denounce Sunset as her protégé. Enraged, Sunset hopped into the mirror and entered the human world. Ashamed that she allowed such a thing happen, Celestia moved the mirror into her throne room, so she may be eternally reminded of her great mistake. The portal connecting the two worlds would not open again for next three years.
Year of Luna's Redemption[edit]
This time period lasted approximately one year—from Princess Luna's redemption and continues up until the Coronation of Twilight Sparkle—during which events brought about countless positive developments: Buffalo and ponies gained an understanding, Dragons and ponies grew friendlier, the citizens of Equestria grew to love Princess Luna instead of fearing her, the Crystal Empire regained its former glory, and many ancient villains were defeated.- Return of Nightmare Moon - The two-part pilot episode 'Friendship is Magic' portrays the defeat of Nightmare Moon by the protagonists, using the Elements of Harmony, known as the Mane Six. Each pony is associated with one of the six Elements of Harmony: Applejack with honesty, Pinkie Pie with laughter, Rainbow Dash with loyalty, Fluttershy with kindness, Rarity with generosity and Twilight Sparkle with magic.[28] Episode 2 ends with the defeat of Nightmare Moon and her transformation back into Princess Luna.[24][29][30]
- Return of Discord - Discord first appears at the beginning of season 2, escaping from his imprisonment as a stone statue and attempting to spread chaos throughout Equestria.[31] He then captures Ponyville for his 'World Capitol of Chaos', but is subsequently defeated by the Elements of Harmony to which he is transformed back into stone. In the season 3 episode 'Keep Calm and Flutter On', Discord is released again from his stone imprisonment by the Mane 6 under Princess Celestia's orders to reform himself, which succeeds after Fluttershy treats him like a friend.[32] Following this, Discord is now a savior of Equestria.[33]
- Return of the Crystal Empire - The Crystal Empire is introduced in season 3 as the home of the Crystal Ponies located in the far north of Equestria. Its despot ruler, King Sombra, first appears in the two-part episode 'The Crystal Empire'. He was defeated by Celestia and Luna in the past and disappeared along with his empire for one thousand years. With the help of Cadance and Shining Armor, the Mane 6 venture to the Crystal Empire after it reappears. They stop King Sombra from retaking the Crystal Empire by finding the 'Crystal Heart' that protects it, with help from Spike, Twilight's dragon assistant. After the event, Princess Cadance has become the official highest ruler of Crystal Empire, with Shining Armor serving as her prince regent and consort.
Ending the Changeling Wars[edit]
The Changeling Wars were a series of persistent conflicts between Equestria and the Changeling Hive, particularly against the Changeling queen, Queen Chrysalis. As masters of psychological manipulation and infiltration tactics with the ability to shapeshift, the changelings are one of Equestria's oldest and greatest threats. Faced with such an asymmetrical enemy, Equestria was forced into fighting an unwinnable irregular warfare and could not bring its full might to bear upon the Queendom, as Chrysalis's throne nullified all magic not of changeling origin.- Changeling Invasion of Canterlot - The two-part season 2 finale 'A Canterlot Wedding' depicts the marriage of Princess Cadance to Prince Shining Armor, the captain of the Royal Guard of Canterlot and Twilight's older brother.[34][35] Queen Chrysalis, a changeling who imprisons and impersonates Cadance prior to her wedding in an attempt to invade Canterlot, the capital of Equestria. Chrysalis' strength arises from her ability to consume love, so she shapeshifted into Cadence to feed off of the love Shining Armor has for Cadance.[36] However, Twilight Sparkle discovers this, frees Cadance, and reveals Cadance's impostor before the wedding. Cadance and Shining Armor defeat the changelings with the power of their love and with help from the Mane Six.[35]
- Changeling abduction of Equestrian leadership and Changeling Revolution - In the season six finale 'To Where and Back Again', Starlight Glimmer discovers a changeling conspiracy in which all four Princesses and her friends have been replaced by doppelgangers and assembles an unlikely team of heroes to save her friends. It was at this point that the 'reformed' changeling, Thorax shows his fellow Changelings if they share friendship, they will no longer need to feed off of love. Subsequently, the Changelings turn against Chrysalis, accepting friendship and becoming reformed versions of themselves.
- Chrysalis's Attempt at Revenge - Less than a year later, Queen Chrysalis attempted to seek vengeance against Starlight Glimmer and the Mane 6 and regain control of the Changeling Hive by creating clones of the Mane Six. However, her plan failed after the Tree of Harmony stopped the clones from stealing the Elements and subsequently killing them. Disregarding a few minor mishaps during their day, the Mane 6 and Starlight Glimmer were left completely unaware of Chrysalis's plan.
Ascension of Twilight Sparkle[edit]
The era begins almost exactly a year after the return of Princess Luna; this era is notable for the coronation of Princess Twilight Sparkle and the opening of the School of Friendship for all individuals. This period brought about increases of peace, prosperity, hope and love, as Princess Twilight continued her scientific research and made her diplomatic mission to spread the friendship to every creature in need. Large battles and conflicts against villains were also held during its time period.- The Return of Sunset Shimmer - Enraged by being replaced by Twilight, Sunset stole the Element of Magic for her own nefarious ends, but is redeemed after being shown true compassion and kindness by Twilight Sparkle. Even after Twilight returns to Equestria, she keeps in touch with Sunset via a magic journal.
- The Return of Lord Tirek - After the centaur Lord Tirek escaped from Tartarus and stole the magic of every pony in Equestria, the princesses gave their magic to Twilight Sparkle, who was able to defeat Tirek and reimprison him in Tartarus.
- The Vengeance of Starlight Glimmer - Starlight Glimmer stole the cutie marks of hundreds of ponies, twice attempted to destroy Twilight and Spike, and almost led Equestria to its complete destruction. (See: Alternate continuity timelines.)
- The New Dragon Lord - During this period, the Gauntlet of Fire was held to determine the new Dragon Lord, because Dragon Lord Torch was retiring. During the gauntlet, Spike was crowned Dragon Lord, but gave the title to Ember, who became a fine Dragon Lord in her own right and forged good relations with Equestria.
- The Storm King's Invasion - The Storm King, a conqueror from a far away land, attacked Canterlot and captured the princesses with an army of monsters led by his unicorn second-in-command Tempest Shadow. Twilight Sparkle and her friends were able to defeat him with the help of new allies from beyond Equestria and Tempest herself.
- The Rise of Cozy Glow - Cozy Glow, a pegasus filly enlisted at Twilight's School of Friendship, conspired with Lord Tirek to trap the Mane 6 in Tartarus and drain Equestria of its magic. She was defeated by the Young Six and imprisoned next to Tirek.
Cessation of Friendship[edit]
After spending millennia regaining his lost power as he witness powerful villains be defeated by Equestria's greatest heroes working together in harmony and friendship, Grogar, the most vile creature Equestria has ever faced—initiates his plans of vengeance.- The Beginning of the End - After Celestia and Luna decide to retire and hand off the ruling of Equestria to Twilight and her friends, it sends Twilight into a tailspin of self-doubt. Around this time, King Sombra, previously presumed dead, returns after being revived by Grogar, but is defeated by the Mane Six, even after he destroys the Tree of Harmony.[37]
Alternate continuity timelines[edit]
In 'The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 1 and Part 2', several alternate versions of present-day Equestria are depicted as a result of Starlight Glimmer changing history. In the first alternate timeline shown, King Sombra expands the Crystal Empire's borders to cover half of Equestria and the Griffon Kingdom. In the second, Queen Chrysalis and the changelings have conquered Canterlot and forced many ponies into hiding. In the third, Nightmare Moon rules Equestria in eternal night after banishing Celestia to the moon. Further alternate realities include one ruled by Discord, one in which Lord Tirek ravages the land, one in which Flim and Flam bulldoze the whole Everfree Forest for development and one in which Equestria is reduced to a barren post-apocalyptic wasteland. Thanks to Twilight Sparkle's actions, these alternate realities are undone.Culture[edit]
Culturally, Equestria is quite similar to that of the anglosphere, being reflected analogies with both the United States and Canada, with foundations being built upon the principles of harmony and friendship.Holidays, observances and events[edit]
Specific events are depicted in the show. Some are regular annual occurrences; others happen more infrequently.Major events[edit]
- Hearth's Warming and Hearth's Warming Eve: An annual holiday commemorating the Declaration of Hearts Warming. It is the most celebrated holiday in Equestrian culture and the most frequently depicted event within the entirety of the Friendship is Magic franchise. The holiday tends to act as the national holiday of Equestria; however, the holiday's celebrations are nearly identical to Christmas, in that it is celebrated during winter and has similar traditions including decorating trees and exchanging gifts.
- Crystal Faire: An annual public holiday held in honor of Princess Cadence within the Crystal Empire. It was established by the Crystal Ponies' first empress, Princess Amore, and became their most important tradition in 'renew the spirit of love and unity in the Empire so the Crystal Ponies could protect Equestria from harm.'
- Summer Sun Celebration: A public holiday originally held in honor of Princess Celestia as the longest day of the year. It was to commemorate the anniversary of Princess Celestia's first raising of the sun, the day Celestia imprisoned Nightmare Moon and restored the sun to Equestria; it is now celebrated as the return of Princess Luna. This event inspired Twilight to study magic and serves as a major plot point in the episodes 'Mare in the Moon', 'The Cutie Mark Chronicles', 'Princess Twilight Sparkle', and 'Horse Play'. The event itself mostly takes place in Canterlot, and ends with Princess Celestia raising the sun behind her.
- Nightmare Night: A Halloween-like holiday held in honor of Princess Luna, in which foals dress up in costumes and go door-to-door collecting candy. Festival activities include a carnival with various games, musical entertainment, and a tradition in which candy is offered to the effigy of Nightmare Moon. According to myth, this holiday was meant to appease Nightmare Moon, lest she visit nightmares upon the innocent and devour naughty children. In 'Luna Eclipsed', though initially disgusted in the celebration of subjecting her own people to fear, Twilight helped Luna learned to understand and even embrace this dark aspect of her persona.
- Friendship Festival: A Friendship Day-like annual holiday held in honor of Princess Twilight Sparkle. It is first depicted in My Little Pony: The Movie, where ponies from all over Equestria gather in Canterlot.
Minor events[edit]
- Cute-ceañera: a 'cute-ceañera' is coming of age event celebrated by those who have recently gotten their cutie marks; it is a play on quinceañera, a girl's fifteenth birthday widely celebrated today throughout the Americas. It is depicted in 'Call of the Cutie', 'Filli Vanilli', 'Crusaders of the Lost Mark' and 'The Fault in Our Cutie Marks'.
- Crystalling: A special ceremony for Crystal Empire newborns that culminates in making the Crystal Heart stronger than before.
- Equestria Games: the biggest sporting event to take place in Equestria that first appears in the season four episode of the same name. Ms. Harshwhinny is the head of the Equestria Games as well as the Games Inspector. Different years' announced hosts of the Equestria Games include Fillydelphia and the Crystal Empire.
- Grand Galloping Gala: An annual royal ball held to celebrate the completion of Canterlot after Equestria was founded. It is attended primarily by the upper classelite: to attend this event, one must possess a golden ticket, as depicted in 'The Ticket Master' and 'Make New Friends but Keep Discord'.
- Hearts and Hooves Day: a Valentine's Day-themed holiday.
- Sisterhooves Social: An annual event held in Ponyville in which 'sister' teams of two compete against each other in various contests. The event is featured in the episodes 'Sisterhooves Social' and Brotherhooves Social', and in the IDW comics' 'My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #38'. According to Granny Smith, the Sisterhooves Social has a loose definition of what constitutes a 'sister'. Because of this, non-sister teams (such as Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo) and male ponies (such as Big MacIntosh) are allowed to participate.
- Winter Wrap Up: Anannual event that involves clearing winter in preparation for spring. All ponies are assigned to one of three teams: weather, plants, or animals. In Cloudsdale, pegasi magic is used to end winter; in Canterlot, unicorn magic is also used. However, because Ponyville was founded by Earth ponies, they change the seasons from winter to spring without using magic. Even after unicorns and pegasi started settling there, the tradition has continued.
Government and politics[edit]
Equestria is depicted as a federalconstitutionalcoregencyprincipality. Equestrian government, as described in depth by the comic series, has a legislature, an executive, and a judiciary. The main television series, however, rarely delves into detail on the government of Equestria, beyond its executive branch, particularly the Royal Family, and the various political officials of the Ponyville township.Legislature[edit]
The legislature branch is a quasi-parliamentary system with meetings of representatives attending summits, such as the 'Grand Equestria Pony Summit', which take place periodically, in order to pass laws and determine policy. Democratic elections for local and provincial positions (i.e. mayors, governors, etc.) are routinely held periodically.Executive[edit]
The executive branch is currently a tetrarchy: led by the four alicorn sovereign princesses and one prince consort (i.e. Shining Armor). While all four alicorns jointly serve as Head of State, only Celestia and Luna act as the Head of Government during the day and night cycles, respectively, as indicated by their title. The exact extent of the Princesses' powers and influence is unknown, as the separation of powers distribution between the government branches are never specified.[34][38]- Princess Celestia, being the eldest monarch, often handles the affairs of state and diplomacy.
- Princess Luna utilizes her intimate knowledge of fear and the use of moon magic in her duties, monitoring the dreams of all creatures and protecting them from nightmares.
- Princess Cadance and her husband Shining Armor jointly serve as the Empress and Emperor of the Crystal Empire, which despite its name, acts, in most cases, as an Equestrian dual monarchy territory or, at the very least, an associated state.
- Princess Twilight Sparkle, as the Princess of Magic and Friendship, plays a de facto role similar to that of a Foreign Minister or Secretary of State, often acting as a diplomatic figure to other nations. She had been groomed over the past two decades by Celestia for leadership—which culminated with Twilight's ascension to Alicornhood—so that she could rule after Celestia's and Luna's eventual retirement.[14]
Judiciary[edit]
The judiciary branch upholds rule of law and provides formal legal code, granting citizens and subjects basic 'pony rights' that even the rulers are obliged to respect and enforce. The justice system sanctions heavily favors leniency, mandatory 'friendship lessons' and the rehabilitation of criminals into reformed citizens; zero tolerance in the form of life incarceration, such as in Tartarus, or banishment to places such as alternate worlds, are reserved for the most dangerous and unrepenting villains.Domestic defense[edit]
Equestria is depicted as being a mostly peaceful nation, with little need for a large military beyond the Royal Guards that protect the Princesses and the Mane 6, who often defend Equestria against magical threats. However, internal existential threats necessitate priority for covert counterintelligence, internal security and anti-monster agencies.[39] Equestria has a military tradition via the Royal Guard—though never put into action in the primary timeline, an alternate timeline of the main series showed that the rulers of Equestria may choose to retain command of the armed forces when they are raised.[40]Foreign policy[edit]
Equestria successfully continues, through the diplomatic efforts of Princess Twilight and her friends, to use soft power in forging cultural, political, diplomatic, military and economic cooperation with Griffonstone, Yakyakistan, Hippogriffia-Seaquestria, Maretonia, Saddle Arabia, Stalliongrad, the reformed Changeling Hive, and all of Dragonkind.Economics and society[edit]
Equestria is a egalitarian society that has a market economy through which a wide variety of goods and services are bought and sold. Many of the stories focus on the performance of economic tasks: crop harvesting, production of baked goods, and the maintenance of the town.Technology and magic[edit]
Equestrian magic is tightly integrated with Equestrian technology, with the formal study of magic forming a fundamental scientific branch. It is a natural part of the Equestrian world that may be harnessed for useful applications, and continues to influence and shape everyday life in Equestria. Many creatures possess inherent abilities that are magical in nature. Ponies in particular have been shown as having natural magic, each species has a magical trait or quality that are mostly unique to them. Magic aids the pegasi in creating beautiful weather, the Earth ponies in growing delicious crops of fresh food, and aids unicorns in creating useful items that benefit all ponies.[41]Infrastructure and Industrialization[edit]
Technologically, Equestria is depicted as being a heavily Tier 2 industrialization, with access to late 19th century and early 20th centuryhard fantasy/steampunk-style steam locomotiverapid transits, zeppelinairships, commercial passenger aircraft, concrete-steel skyscrapers and electric lighting.- Friendship Express is a transcontinental railroad used by Equestrians to travel between regions or continents within days, and is the main character's preferred method of traveling throughout Equestria. Steam-powered technology opened regions of Equestria to exploration and settlements that would not otherwise have been feasible, and forms the backbones of cross-country passenger and freight transportation networks. Since season two, the pink engine-powered train has appeared in the main title sequence; outside of the title sequence, the Friendship Express appears in dozens of episodes and the comics.
- Airships - In 'Apple Family Reunion', family members are seen using airships to travel. In 'Once Upon a Zeppelin', Twilight Sparkle and her family win a free cruise, which turns out to be a themed vacation experience organized by Iron Will. Airships are depicted in My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #29, My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #61. Airship technology is not exclusive to Equestria: the Storm King had a fleet of airships, and Capper mentions owning one to Twilight Sparkle.
Sciences of Magic[edit]
The limitations of magic are always explained even if the reason why is unexplained or impossible. Princess Twilight Sparkle frequently researches magic phenomena using the scientific method.- Cutie Marks - One distinctive form of natural magic that is shared by both ponies and zebra are Cutie Marks. Both appear when a pony/zebra realizes their special talent or goal in life.
- Spellcasting - Raw magic channeled by unicorns and alicorns can generate spells to cause specific effects. Unicorn magic has a colorful aura identical to the pony's eye color. Some of this magic occurs unintentionally, as with Twilight Sparkle being startled by Rainbow Dash's first Sonic Rainboom, accidentally turning her parents into potted plants and hatching Spike. All unicorns learn Telekinesis as their first magical 'fundamental utility' spell; it is considered a basic skill and is usually the first taught to foals. Because of this, any unicorn who is incapable of more is generally considered handicapped or simply untalented. Through practice and education, a unicorn's magic strengthens—the stronger a Unicorns magic, the heavier an object they can lift. An advanced spell, such as Teleportation, can physically and emotionally exhaust an ill-prepared unicorns.
Arcane Artifacts[edit]
Throughout Equestrian history, an unspecified number of magical objects have been imbued with quite the range of mystical powers by the greatest mages that came before. In Fundamentals of Magic - Magical Objects, Princess Celestia teaches her students about various magical objects around Equestria. She states that '..these ancient relics are powerful magical objects, and there are hundreds of them around Equestria. Some of the objects are meant for good. But some, unfortunately.. have more sinister purposes.' Daring Do has made a career in rediscovering forgotten artifacts from older civilizations.- Elements of Harmony - The Elements of Harmony are six magical artifacts created by the Tree of Harmony. The Elements were wielded by both Luna and Celestia at the time. Years on, Celestia would use the elements on her sister when she became Nightmare Moon, the Elements banished luna to the Moon for a thousand years. When the thousand years were up, Twilight Sparkle and her soon to be friends rediscovered the Elements and became friends along the way. They used the Elements on Nightmare Moon, fully restoring her to her original form. The Elements were used again to petrify Discord. The six Elements when inert, take the form of six stone spheres. When active, the Elements take the form of gold items. The Element of Magic was a tiara, whilst the other five were necklaces. Each Element has a gem shaped like the cutie-mark of the Element bearer.
- Crystal Heart - The Crystal Heart is a magical heart-shaped crystal featured in several episodes, including 'The Crystal Empire', 'Equestria Girls', IDW comics, chapter books and storybooks, and merchandise. The Crystal Ponies use it to protect the Crystal Empire and defeat King Sombra. It is featured in the cutie mark of Princess Cadance and Princess Amore.
- Crystal Mirror - The Crystal Mirror is one of Star Swirl's magical 'portal mirrors' featured in Equestria Girls, IDW comics, software, films and animated shorts. Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, and Spike, whenever it is necessary, use the mirror to travel back and forth between Equestria and the human world.
- Alicorn Amulet - The Alicorn Amulet is a magical amulet featured in the episode 'Magic Duel'. The amulet is designed to enhance an alicorn's magic; a non-alicorn who uses the amulet risks being corrupted. It has a built-in magical lock that prevents any pony other than the bearer from taking it off.
- Cutie Map - The Cutie Map is a magical map of Equestria that is first featured in 'The Cutie Map'. Twilight Sparkle and her friends use it to solve friendship problems across Equestria.
- Mirror Pool - An enchanted pool in the Everfree Forest with the power to duplicate whoever stands in front of it. Pinkie Pie uses the pool to duplicate herself in Too Many Pinkie Pies.
Magical creatures[edit]
The magically enchanted land of Equestria is full of naturally gifted and magically-enhanced lifeforms. Cockatrices has a gaze that can petrify any living creature, Phoenixes can regenerate from their ashes; and Hydras have regenerative abilities and poisonous breath, just to name a few.Flora and fauna[edit]
Ponies[edit]
Ponies are a highly developed species of sapient, quadruped ungulate mammals, distinguishable from other equine species by their multicolored pastel coats and manes and the picturesque “cutie mark,” that appears on their flank when they find their purpose. The pony species can be further subdivided into four natural races: earth pony, pegasus, unicorn, and alicorn. Equestrian Ponies are amongst of the most influential species in history—having established a powerful nation, Equestria, whose territories included much of the known world—at the apex of their civilizations' existence.- Earth Ponies
- Earth Ponies possess an underlying connection to the earth, nature, and the environment—that encourages the growth of plant life and a connection with wild animals. Earth Pony based technology is purely mechanical and often is intended to replicate thing they cannot do themselves, such as aircraft. Earth Ponies form the backbone of Equestria's economy, operating within most industries sectors involving natural resources, construction or extraction. Their natural talents in agriculture, forestry, mining—and generally making 'all things grow'—extends from plants to rock farms. Compared to their Pegasi or Unicorn counterparts, Earth Ponies exhibit supernatural strength, stamina, fortitude, and durability; in season 1 episode, 'Over a Barrel', four Earth stallions demonstrates their ability to pull a fully loaded train for hours with little effort.[citation needed]
- Pegasi
- Pegasi Ponies have the unique ability to fly and magically control the weather. This ability is powered by a small pair of feathered wings on their backs that noticeably make no sound when they're flapping, which is the sole distinguishing anatomical feature of pegasi compared to other pony races. Pegasus Ponies make up the majority of ponies responsible for the postal service, patrolling Equestria's airspace, and controlling Equestria's weather. Pegasi Ponies are the only pony able to naturally interact with clouds as if they were tangible; this allows them to walk on and move clouds and, by extension, control the weather. In the episode 'Hurricane Fluttershy', a coordinated team of one hundred Pegasi Ponies demonstrate their ability to generate hurricane-force winds to funnel water from a lake.[42]
- Unicorn
- Unicorns can directly absorb, wield, channel, create and manipulate magic; this ability is powered by a single horn of variable length, texture, and color on their forehead. However, a unicorn's horn can be destroyed, taking away most of their magical capabilities.[7] Unicorns are amongst the most educated and scholarly of Equestria's citizens.[7] During wartime, they form the bulk of engineering and artillery military units. While other ponies' innate magical talents are 'intuitive or instinctive', unicorns must 'work hard' and require decades of higher education to master any spell beyond the most basic fundamentals.[9] Most spells and abilities are open to all unicorns, but each unicorn has a specialty, be it teleportation, transfiguration, or medicine. Generally, unicorns have a collection of various spells relating to their specialty, one being vastly more effective than the rest.[9]
- Alicorn
- Alicorns are a unique race of pony that possess all three distinguishing features of the other pony races: the horn of a unicorn, the wings of a pegasus, and the fortitude of an earth pony. As such, this also grants them access to the inherent magical abilities of all three races: a unicorn's external ability to directly control magic, a pegasus' internal ability to fly and manipulate weather, and an earth pony's natural affinity to the earth. Only five Alicorns are known to exist, including Princess Flurry Heart, the only known natural born Alicorn. Alicorns are portrayed as being taller and more slender than most ponies, with unique horns and wings. Alicorns are known for their unnaturally long lifespan and inherent supernatural abilities. The extend of alicorns' magical prowess is best demonstrated in 'Twilight's Kingdom', when Tirek—fueled by magic stolen from all of Equestria's citizens—fought Twilight Sparkle—who possessed the combined magic of the other alicorn princesses— to a stalemate.
Non-ponies[edit]
- Zebra
- Zebras are distinguishable by the unique black-and-white stripes that adorn their coats and the glyph-like Cutie Mark that adorns their haunch. Zebras are explicitly stated not to be a race of pony despite being the only other Equidae creature to feature a cutie mark. Zebras have been shown as naturally resistant to forms of mind control and cannot be detected by telepathic entities. There were a number of communities in Equestria that had zebras living and working among ponies, often as the minority. While zebra interaction with ponies was not uncommon, their strange mannerisms invited speculation and irrational fear among ponies in some areas. In The Journal of the Two Sisters, young Luna and a manticore named Melvin encounter other zebras in a dark part of the Everfree Forest.[15] Like Zecora, they all speak in rhyme. Rainbow Dash and the Daring Do Double Dare also features a villainous male zebra named Braze. Zecora was depicted to possess her own form of magic and prove knowledgeable in the usage of magic, martial arts, alchemy, and medicine. However, it is unknown if all zebras have innate as Zecora did.
- Dragon
- Dragons are a highly-intelligent but mostly nomadic apex predators of large, winged, serpent-like sentient creatures. Dragons are omnivores and lithovores, capable of eating a wide range of meat, vegetables/fruit and gemstones. They range significantly in size—anywhere from a foot at youth to a truly massive several dozen meters in late adulthood. They live to be centuries, possible millenia old. Dragons are capable fliers and have notoriously strong armoured scales, which can be a wide variety of possible colors. They breathe fire as a form of attack; this fire breath is magical, with Spike as the only Dragon shown to possess the ability to breath flames that can transport letters/items/living creatures. Aside from allegiance to the Dragon Lord, dragons had no real alignment nor organized society, and most merely roamed around the land— be it in search of places to plunder, to rear their young, or to store their treasure hoards—only occasionally being spotted within the borders of Equestria. Dragons are materialistic, known to grow in size as they collect or hoard things, be it gems, books, furniture, treasures, or simply useless junk. As shown in the season 2 episode 'Secret of My Excess', a dragon will grow in size as it beomes greedier.
- Draconequus
- Draconequus are beings of immense power, powerful enough to alter reality at a whim. Discord is the only example of a Draconequus within the main television series; however, he and others often reference Draconequui as being a species, implying that there are more than one. The comics do elaborate and introduce several Draconequui individuals.[citation needed]
Geography[edit]
Equestria is the largest equine nation, stretching across a peninsula-continent located on a planet which, within the main series, has not been specifically named. Equestria reaches from the western Luna Ocean to the eastern Celestia Sea, bordering the northern Crystal Empire and the southern Queendom of Changlings.[1]The Equestrian continent's diverse geography ranges, biomes, provinces and settlements are modeled after or based on North American cities and the nearctic realm.[1]Notable settlements, territories, dependencies and major population centers in Equestria are identified throughout the series and used as the setting for one or more episodes. Most minor locations, or vaguely referenced areas outside Equestria, both in the television series and associated media aren't specified whether these locations are part of Equestria or not. The films, television series, and other franchise media take place in many locations and their exact affiliation with Equestria is not explored. Though the comic is aimed at young children, the writers and artists have consistently taken risks, including introducing LGBT characters and complex, multi-issue story arcs.[43]As the creator of the show wrote, Lauren Faust explained on various social media pages,[44] that the Everfree Forest is west of Ponyville, Sweet Apple Acres is southwest, and both Fluttershy's cottage and meadow are located north of the farm, presumably between Ponyville and the forest. Canterlot is northeast of Ponyville. However, in subsequent interviews, both Faust and Jayson Thiessen mentioned that the geography and continuity of the show are fluidly defined and are subject to change as necessary,[45] and that the production team had no official map of Equestria at their disposal.[46]Capital Region[edit]
The Capital region is Equestria's foundation and 'ancestral lands', where the united cooperation between Unicorn, Pegasi, and Earth Tribes brought an end to Eternal Winter. It also represents Equestria's original sovereign borders before the reign of Princess Celestia and subsequent thousand year expansion of the nation's imperialist interests.GREATLINK Midi to USB Cable Interface Converter - in Out Midi Cable Host Plug Controller Wire Cord for Keyboard Synthesizer Piano Instrument to Mac Computer PC. Ponyville is portrayed as a small village within the center of Equestria, within sight of Canterlot. The design of Ponyville is mostly Bavarian, with a minor influence of Americana.[38] The season 4 finale, 'Twilight's Kingdom', introduces the Castle of Friendship in Ponyville as the residence of Twilight Sparkle, her assistant Spike, and her pupil, the villain-turned-hero Starlight Glimmer. Mayor Mare is depicted as the leader of Ponyville, who lives in 'Sweet Apple Acres' with the primary members of the 'Apple Family'.[47]According to the book Art of Equestria, which describes the creation of Friendship is Magic, the creator of the series, Lauren Faust, originally proposed the name Fillydelphia (a pun on the city of Philadelphia) instead of Ponyville. The series later added Fillydelphia as a new, separate city.[38]Faust wrote in a comment on her DeviantArt page that the Everfree Forest is west of Ponyville, Sweet Apple Acres is southwest, and Fluttershy's cottage and meadow are located north of the farm, presumably between Ponyville and the forest. Canterlot is northeast of Ponyville.[48] However, in subsequent interviews, both Faust and the supervising director and executive producer of the series, Jayson Thiessen, mentioned that the geography and continuity of the show are loosely defined and may change as necessary,[49] and a layout artist for the series stated on December 10, 2011, that the production team had no official map of Equestria for reference.[50]Upon the release of Art of Equestria, however, an official map was released. It suggests that the Everfree Forest is to the east of Ponyville, Sweet Apple Acres to the southeast, and Fluttershy's cottage and meadow are located due north of the farm.[38]Canterlot[edit]

It is the is the second most populated city in Equestria. Canterlot is the setting of the royal court of Princess Celestia and Luna and the residence of Twilight Sparkle before Ponyville. Canterlot Castle is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focal point for the Equestrian people at times of national rejoicing and mourning. The name Canterlot is a portmanteau of Camelot and canter.Lauren Faust's inspiration for Canterlot, with its castle carved into the side of the mountain, was Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings.[52]Ted Anderson and Agnes Garbowska's inspiration for ancient Canterlot was ancient Rome.[53]According to Lauren Faust, Canterlot was originally called 'Canterbury', after the historical English city, and the name 'Canterlot' was suggested by her husband Craig McCracken.[54]Cloudsdale[edit]
The City of Cloudsdale is portrayed as an enormous floating city made of clouds, which is only accessible by winged animals and creatures that have had a 'cloud-walking spell' cast on them. Cloudsdale is said to be the original home and birthplace of Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.[55] Cloudsdale is a pun of Clydesdale, a breed of horse.Everfree Forest[edit]

The forest is largely uninhabitable, being a saturated 'hotspot' of unpredictable wild magic induced genetic mutations and dangerous legendary creatures, and is regarded by ponies as the most hostile region within Equestria's borders. Only the native Everfree Deers seem capable of calling this environment home. It is the location of the Mirror Pool, Tree of Harmony, and other enchanted phenomena, and is noted as being one of the few places in Equestria where the weather is not controlled by the pegasi, but instead moves on its own Due to the forest's biodiversity of flora and fauna, Zacora built her hut within to more easily harvest ingredients for her potions.[24]Thicket, a Deer village,[56] is surrounded by Everfree's thick forests and steep hills which create an enclave that is cut off from its immediate hinterland. Thicket exercises tribal sovereignty—complete jurisdiction and control over the Everfree Forest territory—while recognizing that Equestria retains ultimate federal sovereignty. The episode 'Stare Master' states that the forest is filled with 'many strange creatures'.[57] Subsequent episodes show that creatures from the Everfree Forest include Hydras, Manticores, Cragadiles (crocodile-like creatures made of stone), Timber Wolves (huge wolves made of tree trunks), Sea Serpents, Cockatrices, Parasprites (small bug-like creatures that are highly destructive, but regarded as cute), and Ursas (large bear-like creatures, with enlarged teeth and blue or purple fur).Frozen North[edit]
Dominated by the Yaket Mountain Range, portrayed as the region north of Equestria, characterized by an alpine climate, subarcticmontane ecosystems, and polar climate.[38] This region is a setting in the IDW comic My Little Pony: Friends Forever issue 36.[58] It has short cool summers and very long cold winters, and biomes consisting of taiga, treeless tundra, glaciers, exotic medicinal plants,[58] and permanent ice sheets.Crystal Empire[edit]

She appears in the IDW comics' 'My Little Pony: FIENDship is Magic Issue #1' and whose name appears in Little, Brown and Company's 'The Journal of the Two Sisters'.[15]The Crystal Heart is the empire's most sacred magical artifact: it has the power to absorb, magnify, and deflect emotions. The crystal ponies used it in peacetime to exponentially amplify the power of love ND project hope and love across Equestria.[59] In times of conflict: it can be used as a weapon to demoralize the armies of would be aggressors.Celestia addresses the Crystal Empire as a sister nation that is part of Equestria, and the crystal ponies refer to themselves as EquestrianA. In 'The Ballad of the Crystal Empire', Twilight Sparkle mentions the Crystal Kingdom as part of the Crystal Ponies' history. It is also home to the Crystal Ponies as well as prince regent Shining Armor and princess regnant Mi Amore Cadenza, who took over the kingdom after King Sombra was defeated a second time by the Crystal Heart. Royal Magic Advisor Sunburst serves her majesty as 'Royal Mentor and Foalsitter' to their daughter and royal heir, Princess Flurry Heart. The book 'Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell' names the Crystal Empire as part of Equestria.[60]Celestial Coast[edit]
The Celestia Sea is located east of Equestria, and is analogous to the real world Atlantic Ocean. The region's biomes, climate, and geographic terrain are equally analogous to Eastern Canada and Eastern United States. The coastline is an emerging megaregion—the combined population centers of Manehattan, Fillydelphia and Baltimare make one-third of Equestria's population—and is the most heavily urbanized agglomeration of Equestria. Across the sea, to the far east lies the Griffon Continent; notable nations include Griffonstone, the Griffish Isles, Bug Bear Territory, the Lands of the Hippogriffs, and the Lands of the Dragon.Manehattan[edit]

It features tall buildings and skyscrapers with asphalt streets and electric lampposts. Ponies' primary form of transportation are pony-drawn taxi carriages and underground railway system. Manehattan is the most densely populated and ethnically diverse city in Equestria, hosting all manner of races and species who emigrated from their native homelands, and is a major commercial, financial and cultural center. Its iconic landmarks include the Crystaller Building, Friendship Trade Center, neon-lit Bridleway Theater District, Madisoat Mare Garden, Maneway Grand Central Station, and Manehattan Park. A mirror of the Statue of Liberty, the “Mare Statue,”[61] located on Friendship Island, has become a national symbol of Equestria's commitment of peace and goodwill towards all nations.Like Ponyville and Canterlot, Manehattan is depicted as the location of one of Rarity's boutiques, known as 'Rarity for You'.[12] Notable features of the setting include conventions differing from Ponyville's, as seen in the episode, 'Stranger Than Fan Fiction',[62][63] and an elevated train. Starlight's Village, also called Our Town, is a community in the Manehattan region and is characterized by a semi-arid climate.[64]Hollow Shades[edit]
Hollow Shades was first mentioned in 'Apple Family Reunion'. The town first physically appeared in the Map of Equestria, a hand-drawn piece of artwork that lays out the canonical layout of Equestria, located east of Canterlot, tucked underneath a forest canopy, and hidden behind Foal Mountain.Seaward Shoals[edit]
Seaward Shoals is portrayed as a small rocky coastal port town, similar to those of the New England region of the United States. Also called Silver Shoals or Rocky Shoals, the community is the setting of the episode 'P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)'.[10]Luna Coast[edit]

Based on the cities of Las Vegas and Paradise, Nevada, Las Pegasus is portrayed as 'one big party',[65] with many hotels, amusement parks, restaurants, arcades, and casinos. Las Pegasus was the setting of the episode 'Viva Las Pegasus'.[65]Mysterious South[edit]
This region is known for its arid deserts, temperate prairies and tropical rainforestsbiomes.AppleloosaAppleloosa is the most populous settlement in the region. Dodge Junction is based on the cities of the American Wild West, particularly Dodge City in Kansas, and is portrayed as a bustling township that mainly revolves around a cherry farm run by the earth pony Cherry Jubilee. Similar to Dodge Junction, Appleloosa, a pun of the Appaloosa horse breed, is a setting based on the cities of the American Wild West and mainly revolves around an apple orchard that is home to members of the 'Apple Family'.[30] Appleloosa is depicted as bordering on the buffalo lands, home of the indigenousbuffalo tribes.[30]The Badlands[edit]
The Badlands are in the remote desert backcountry, and are known to be populated by terrifying creatures, such as diamond dogs, giant worms, and rogue dragons.Somnambula[edit]
Somnambula, roughly based on Egypt and North Africa, has an arid, desert climate, excluding a few oases.[63] It is notable as a city that the pony adventurer 'Daring Do' saves twice. The character of Somnambula, a legendary heroic pegasus, who rescues the prince of the Kingdom from a sphinx, is the city's namesake.[63] Somnambula also frees the city from its leader's taxing and oppressive reign. The city is noted as once being ruled over by pharaohs,[63] and is first mentioned in the episode 'Stranger than Fan Fiction',[62][66] and shown again in the episode 'Daring Done?'.[63]Other mentioned locations[edit]
The setting of San Franciscolt is based on the city of San Francisco, and is only mentioned in the book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell.[67]In episodes throughout the series and in promotional material, other locations are mentioned, but not used as settings. A partial list includes Baltimare, based on the city of Baltimore;[68] Fillydelphia, which is based on the city of Philadelphia and was the original name for Ponyville when the show was in development;[38] and Vanhoover, which is based on Vancouver, Canada and is described as the former home of 'Grand Pear', Applejack's grandfather.[69]Geography beyond Equestria[edit]
Most of these nations maintain some form of official diplomatic relations with Equestria.[7] In Season 8 premier, Equestria's allied leadership sent their children to Princess Twilight's School of Friendship as part of an cultural exchange program; when the children went missing, their parents were prepared to declare war on Equestria. In 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Issue #61-62' story Convocation of Creatures, Twilight Sparkle, Princess Celestia, and Raven Inkwell take part in the Convocation of Creatures, an assembly of delegates and leaders from all across the world. This event has not been held for over seven hundred years. Twilight is especially excited to share her scientific research with other creatures from Equestria and beyond, as a viable source of energy. At the convocation reception, she meets Princess Cadance, Queen Novo, Princess Ember, Prince Rutherford, King Thorax, and hundreds of other leaders from other regions of the world.[citation needed]Allied Nations of Equestria[edit]
Saddle Arabia[edit]
Saddle Arabia is mentioned in 'Magic Duel', 'Road to Friendship', and My Little Pony: The Movie. Princess Celestia has hosted diplomatic representatives from this region on several occasions. Hoo'Far, a Saddle Arabian unicorn, states that Saddle Arabia has 'many fans' of Trixie. The name is a play on the country of Saudi Arabia.Maretonia[edit]
The duke and duchess of Maretonia appear in attendance of the Equestria Games in the episode of the same name. They appear again in Twilight's Kingdom - Part 1 and visit the Crystal Empire for a summit with Celestia, Luna, and Cadance. Maretonia is also mentioned in Princess Celestia and the Summer of Royal Waves and by Cadance and Shining Armor in The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows. The name is a play on Macedonia.Seaqustria[edit]
The Hippogriffs/Hippocampus nation in My Little Pony The Movie and in The Official Movie Sourcebook, to which they fled after their original home of Hippogriffia was destroyed by the Storm King's forces. It is ruled by Queen Novo. Seaquestria also appears in the episode, 'Surf and/or Turf,' as an illustration in Silverstream's story in The Hearth's Warming Club, and in the chapter book Beyond Equestria: Fluttershy Balances the Scales.- Mount Aris is featured in My Little Pony: The Movie and in The Official Movie Sourcebook as the location of the Hippogriff Kingdom. It is south of the Badlands, and located near Klugetown. Mount Aris also appears in 'Surf and/or Turf' and is illustrated in 'The Hearth's Warming Club' and 'Father Knows Beast'.
- Hippogriffia: The capital of the hippogriff kingdom, located atop Mount Aris. When Tempest Shadow infiltrates the city in an attempt to steal a magical pearl from Queen Novo, the city is destroyed in a battle between the Hippogriffs and the Storm King's forces, and is abandoned when the hippogriffs go into hiding. In the film, Twilight and her friends travel to the ruined city in search of the Hippogriffs. Hippogriffia also appears in 'Surf and/or Turf,' restored to its former glory.
Changeling Hive[edit]
The Changeling Hive is alluded to in 'The Times They Are A Changeling' and appears in 'To Where and Back Again', 'Celestial Advice', and in Gameloft's mobile game. Here, Chrysalis is dethroned and Thorax succeeds her as changeling leader.Dragon Lands[edit]
Dragon Lands are the home of dragons. Due to their egotistical nature, dragons do not have any formal borders or government by traditional definitions, functioning rather like adhocracy. Dragon's primary food source is that of gemstones, many of which, according to the comics, are imported from Equestria. Since the rise of the new 'Dragon Lord,' the leader of the dragons, the dragons have agreed to 'stop being bullies' to the ponies, and have even sent some members of their species to study in Equestria.Griffon Kingdom[edit]
The Griffon Kingdom is mentioned in the several main series episodes, My Little Pony Micro-Series Issue #5, by Pinkie Pie, and My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #26. The Griffon Kingdom is primarily populated by griffons, in much of the series, the Griffons have acted as close allies of Equestria. While this is mostly true in the comics, there have been some major exceptions, including a incident in which the Griffin Kingdom claimed much of Equestrian territories, based on outdated documents.[citation needed]- Griffonstone is the capitol city populated by griffons. It has a rich history centered around an ancient treasure called the Idol of Boreas.
Yakyakistan[edit]
Yakyakistan is the yak kingdom. It is located north of the Crystal Empire and is ruled by the yak Prince Rutherford. Ambassador Pinkie Pie befriended the citizens, was made an 'honorary yak-pony', and gleefully assimilated into their culture. Prince Blueblood and Shining Armor visit Yakyakistan for a diplomatic mission to set up a trade agreement between it and the Crystal Empire.Other nations[edit]
- Klugetown (pronounced /ˈkluːdʒtaʊn/
KLOOJ-town
) is a diversely-populated desert town featured in My Little Pony: The Movie, The Stormy Road to Canterlot, My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel Issue #4, Gameloft's mobile game, The Official Movie Sourcebook, and IDW's Nightmare Knights issue 4. Economically, Klugetown is depicted as being very close to a laissez-faireguildocracy, with little discipline or regulation governing trade or government, with both benign and sinister consequences.
